About Janey Kirk
Scottish born singing chanteus Janey Kirk started singing professionally at the age of six. At that young age she was whisked away every weekend to perform at various functions across Fife and beyond.
By the time she left school she had a following of fans who came to see her five nights a week at two local venues. Janey joined a teen band named ” Hi-Lite” and served a good apprenticeship for three years touring Scotland.
Then Janey appeared on New Faces where she came in second place. This was when her career officially took flight. She was soon sharing the bill and being support with many famous stars such as Joe Loss at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, Vince Hill, and work with The Nolans. She toured Britain with Sydney Devine and appeared on “Your Cheating Heart” with Guy Mitchell. This led to her debut appearance on “Taggart”. When she was approached by Celtic Football Club to sing and record a song to celebrate their centenary year she was filmed by the BBC at the Celtic Social Club while performing ” I’ll Follow the Bhoys”. Thousands of copies of this original vinyl record were sold at the time and the track is still available today from some Celtic retail outlets.
Recently, Janey decided to develop her song writing abilities, and this took the form of several original tracks appearing on her first professional CD, “Sweetheart Darlin’ of Mine”. There are 15 songs in total on the CD, four of which are Janey’s original material. You may guess from the title that this shows a revival in Janey’s interest in the country genre. Her second album ” Dont colour me blue” was a huge success and the title track was given to her by the late country Texan star, Billie Jo Spears during a UK 17 day tour in May 2011, Sharing the same bill was Scotlands Lena Martel and Irelands Philomena Begley.
Janey was also a presenter and singer on the popular SKY TV show ” Music Express Extra ” where she interviewed well known and up and coming artistes from all over the UK and Ireland, Janeys popularity on this show is keeping her very busy as she continues to write her self penned songs, making music videos and new cd’s.
More recently janey is now recording a brand new album with Jerry Donahue, who was a huge part of the folk music scene in the 1970/80′s with Fairport convention, Fotheringay etc,,this album has a line up of high profile players and is all self penned songs leaning towards a more modern country genre and is one to look out for, due for release summer 2014
