Joe Rice

À propos de Joe Rice

"I like lyrics that are creatively phrased and at the same time smack you in the face.  The first one that comes to mind is from Collin Raye's "Little Rock", written by Tom Douglas:

You know your daddy told me when I left/ Jesus would forgive, but a daddy don't forget...

Ouch!"

Born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1978, Joe Rice spent his youngest years in Mississippi and Alabama before his family permanently settled in upstate South Carolina.  His earliest musical influence was the gospel music of Tennesse Ernie Ford and George Beverly Shea.  Throughout his school years, Joe always impressed his teachers and friends with the need for and pure enjoyment of creative writing. He began to hone his songwriting craft during college, before graduating in 2000.

In 2001, Joe met Phil and Mark Lister of Dixiana Music in Nashville.  They took Joe under their wings and taught him much about  the in's and out's of the music business.  Together, they have collaborated with Joe on nearly all his recordings thus far and have performed together onstage many times.  The fellows have an excellent working relationship as well as friendship.

Joe's main musical interest is what he describes as "traditional honky-tonk with the occasional contemporary twist."  He snickers slightly at what he knows seems like an awfully broad category, but explains, "Basically, my desire is to make the type of country music that I myself would want to listen to."  Though country is his main focus, drawing from influences such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Hank Williams Jr., Conway Twitty, Randy Travis, and the Statler Brothers (just to name a few), he also points to a fondness of artists from other genres who he feels influenced his tastes--popular artists like Bon Jovi, Guns 'n' Roses, Bobby Brown, Boyz II Men, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley, and southern gospel influences like Bill and Gloria Gaither, Guy Penrod, the Cathedrals, and the Pfeifers.
